Ferrari not in talks with Todt over return – Binotto

Ferrari is not in talks with outgoing FIA president Jean Todt about a future role with the team, according to Mattia Binotto, his successor in charge of the Scuderia.

Todt became team principal of Ferrari from 1994 and remained with them until 2008, during which time he presided over their greatest period of success. This included six consecutive constructors championship victories plus five titles on the trot for driver Michael Schumacher.

After leaving Ferrari, Todt was elected as FIA president. His final term ends next week and he has already confirmed to intends not to continue in a role with motorsport’s governing body.

Earlier this week an Italian newspaper reported Todt was in discussions with the Scuderia about a return in a consultancy role.

However, when asked by RaceFans if talks had begun between Ferrari at Todt, team principal Binotto said: “no”.

“I heard and read about some speculations in that respect” he explained, but insisted that “so far, they are only speculations.”

“Personally, I’ve worked with Jean Todt, he has been my boss, I think I learnt a lot from him,” Binotto continued.

“It has been an honour to work with him and I will say that as well in case whatever would be the future, it will still be an honour for me to work together with him because I still believe that, as well as course as [sporting director Laurent] Mekies and as a team, there’s still much to learn.”
